Today, we set our sights on the calming haven of Point Pleasant Serenity, a beach house kitchen renovation orchestrated by the talented Andrea Garone of Design Line Kitchens in Sea Girt, NJ. This project transformed a standard kitchen into a haven that perfectly complements the homeowner's desire for a tranquil coastal retreat.
Designing a Dream Beach Escape
We had the pleasure of chatting with Andrea to understand her vision for Point Pleasant Serenity. Here's what she shared:
Q: Andrea, the original kitchen seemed like a typical suburban kitchen. What were the key elements you focused on to transform the new kitchen into a beach retreat?
Andrea: We aimed to infuse coastal vibes into every aspect. Shifting from standard to shaker-style cabinetry, we chose soft, beach-inspired hues like light blue, soft gray, and sand. Natural light played a crucial role, so we opened up the space with glass cabinetry flanking the window above the sink to give a lighter, open feeling to the space.
Q: While white kitchens are popular, this space incorporates calming light grey cabinetry on the island. Can you tell us about this design choice and how it contributes to the overall feel?
Andrea: Absolutely! The light gray adds depth and warmth while maintaining a serene ambiance. It echoes the tones of driftwood and weathered stones found along the shoreline, anchoring the kitchen in its coastal surroundings.
Q: The farmhouse sink adds a touch of rustic charm, perfectly complementing the coastal aesthetic. Was this a predetermined element, or did it emerge during the design process?
Andrea: The farmhouse sink was a deliberate choice from the start. Its nostalgic charm evokes memories of seaside cottages, and its practicality aligns with the relaxed, functional vibe we wanted to achieve.
Q: A two-zone under counter fridge with a separate wine storage unit is a great touch. Can you elaborate on how this feature enhances the kitchen's functionality for entertaining?
Andrea: This feature offers convenience and versatility, especially for hosting gatherings. The two-zone fridge ensures ample space for beverages and perishables, while the dedicated wine storage unit keeps bottles at the perfect temperature, effortlessly accommodating both everyday living and entertaining needs.
Q: Storage is essential in any kitchen, but especially in a beach house. How did you maximize storage solutions in this project?
Andrea: We incorporated a mix of clever storage solutions, including pull-out pantry shelves, deep drawers for pots and pans, and vertical storage for trays and baking sheets. Roll-outs and custom angled shelving allowed for full optimization of the depth in the under stair pantry. Utilizing every inch of available space, we ensured that storage was both abundant and accessible, catering to the practical needs of beach living.
Q: Beyond aesthetics, Point Pleasant Serenity incorporates a thoughtful detail for the family pet. Can you tell us about the custom food and water bowl station, and how it seamlessly integrates with the design?
Andrea: Recognizing the importance of furry family members, we designed a custom food and water bowl station integrated into the cabinetry. Elevated for easy access and discreetly tucked away when not in use, it blends seamlessly with the kitchen design, ensuring that every member of the family feels at home in this tranquil coastal retreat.
Conclusion
Andrea Garone's design for this Bay Blvd. home exemplifies how thoughtful choices can transform a kitchen into a space that reflects a homeowner's lifestyle and aspirations. The calming beach aesthetic, maximized storage, and integrated pet features make this kitchen a true haven for relaxation and family enjoyment.
